The Hyde Park Jazz Festival returns to present nearly 30 FREE live performances in multiple sites across Hyde Park, Kenwood, and Washington Park on September 25-26, 2021, including the return of the Wagner and West Stages on the Midway. As the Festival emerges from the Covid-19 pandemic, the program focuses on Chicago artists, many of whom will perform with very special guests.
This year the festival has commissioned Chicago drummer, producer, beat scientist and composer Makaya McCraven to create a new suite for sextet, including musicians Greg Ward (alto sax), Matt Gold (guitar), Junius Paul (bass), Marquis Hill (trumpet), and Brandee Younger (harp).
Other festival performers include Tomeka Reid with Regina Carter, Isaiah Collier with JD Allen, Juan Pastor’s Chinchano with Miguel Zenón, and over two dozen more.

Matrix Notes:
The audio on the YouTube video is split with mostly drums in the right channel and mostly horns, harp and guitar in the left channel. I balanced those out and put everything in both left and right, then added a touch of Richard’s AT853 cardioid audience source to give it the room feel and snare echo. It sounds even nicer now. There is a 30-second segment in the middle of the first song where I had to drop out the SBD/YouTube source because it was freezing and skipping on the source video.
