Wilderness Of The Mind [Charismatic, 1CD]

Live compilation 1976-1980; very good soundboard; vinyl-derived CD.

This was an early bootleg CD; a vinyl-derived compilation of 1976-1980 Genesis concert recordings. It was also one of the most badly scratched new CDs that I’ve ever encountered. Now, with the availability of professional CD polishing, it has been polished to perfect, spotless condition, and I can now bring it to the fans. - Philip Cohen

Thanks to Phil for sharing the tracks.

Note: A longtime music fan, Philip Cohen was a contributor to the now-defunct ICE Magazine and compiled the boxsets for The Yardbirds, The Small Faces, Humble Pie and Nice.

  5. Never saw this one before! Very nice to share these tracks with us Philip! These early vinyl mixes of pro-recorded promo-intended live sources still retain their charm after all these years–even with the ’slight’ imperfections of pops and the occasional turntable-speed-issue!

  6. p.s. the Jan. 1, 1977 recording was Chester Thompson’s first gig with Genesis.

  8. To Dandor,

In all likelyhood, any speed accuracy issues are in the bootleg vinyl itself. Inaccurate speed was a problem with many 1970’s vinyl bootlegs.

  9. Hi Phil,
oh yes, no doubt; just listen to this Your Own Special Way as it runs quite fast pitchwise, but still is so rare(?!?) that not even the venue is known for it. (Many of these tracks are now available in better pre-FM and more complete versions.)

  10. sorry, not pre-FM, but pre-vinyl!

  11. Excellent!
Please more Genesis live concerts from 1976-77!
    Thanks :)

  12. Great stuff. My guess is that Moonlit Knight/Carpet Crawlers would have to be UK 1980, not USA (Drury Lane? Lyceum Ballroom?). If memory serves, Carpet Crawlers was not performed during US leg…Moonlit Knight went directly into Squonk. :-)
