Sympathy For The Collector Part 3 [Westwood One, 1CD]

Live, rarities and deleted tracks.

This is a collection of non-LP recordings from 12-inch, 7-inch and CD singles, all now deleted. Compiled by American radio syndicator “Westwood One”. “So Young” is an outtake from the “Some Girls” sessions. This was one of six “Some Girls” outtakes that Jagger added vocals to in the 1990s, but only this one track got released (on a long-deleted UK CD single). - Philip Cohen

For those who had worn out their vinyl records and wished they or someone had digitised those precious records, this one’s for you.

Thanks to Phil for sharing the tracks.

Note: A longtime music fan, Philip Cohen was a contributor to the now-defunct ICE Magazine and compiled the boxsets for The Yardbirds, The Small Faces, Humble Pie and Nice.

  5. For Stones fans who haven’t heard them yet: “So Young” and “Highwire” rock the house! “So Young” SHOULD be a damn concert staple for those lazy sods!

I don’t think any of the “Love Is Strong” or “…Wild” remixes add anything but drag down some great songs.

So, to my ears, a mixed-mix, but the best of the bunch is essential.

  6. agree with Namoosedog - never too many Stones!

  7. OK, surprised no one else has asked the obvious, so I guess it’s up to me!…

Part of the title of this collection is “Part 3.” IS there a part one or two (and is it possibly part of some “legitimate” release?), or is this one of those tongue-in-cheek things like Ben Folds Five or Travelling Wilburys part three?

If there IS more, of course we’d love to see it! And if not, thanks anyway for sharing SOOOO much great stuff over the years, BigO! Have a happy New Year, and many more (hopefully filled with sharing music)…

  8. To Jerry Dunaway,

Big O already has “Part 2″(which is why I didn’t supply it), but unfortunately neither Big O or myself have “Part One”. These discs, while certainly bootleg in spirit, were compiled by an American radio concert syndication company and distributed only to radio D.J.’s, not so much for airplay, but rather to give the D.J.’s a rarity that they could sell on the collectors market.

  11. Phillip:

First off, let me take a moment to thank you for ALL that you have shared, and even if you stopped today (heaven forbid!) I would still be grateful for all that you have turned a lot of us on to!

Secondly, Phil — that wasn’t by chance the “On the Rocks” collection you recently posted, was it?

And fabbiatti… thanks for the hookup! Just got through offloading those two volumes. As a Stones “completist,” this will definitely be a welcome addition to my collection (as is “Sympathy Part 3″)…
