Glasgow 2010 [no label, 2CD]

Live at the O2 Academy, Glasgow, Scotland; November 23, 2010. Very good soundboard.

When it comes to Britpop, the Lennon-McCartney partnership had been so formidable that it overshadowed many groups that came later. On their own, the Chris Difford-Glen Tillbrook are no pushovers and can always be relied upon for some swinging pop tunes. In August 2010, Squeeze released Spot The Difference, an album of newly recorded versions of older songs, and then it’s off for a tour.

This is what Chris Scott reviewed of the Glasgow gig at

There was the smooth soul of Tempted, the muscular and wry Beatles update Is That Love, Up The Junction, (which had thousands of people singing along to every word of a song with no chorus), Labelled with Love (Patsy Cline, re-routed via South London), plus of course Cool For Cats… All inducing mass singalongs and a real love and joy from the audience (typified in front of me by two balding men who were tenderly hugging and singing their hearts out…).

There is also a winning sense of humour about Squeeze, they walk on to a phat hip-hop beat and after Goodbye Girl they performed a little choreographed dance routine, unexpected from these middle aged guitar band veterans, it had the audience in disbelief, then stitches. Oh and the encore? Slap And Tickle, Another Nail In My Heart and Mussels From A Shell - a three punch combo of catchy hooks and melodies that most bands would kill for and a fine end to a crowd-pleasing set.
