DAVID BOWIE
Toys [no label, 1CD]

Unreleased 2001 album.

Here’s the news report at antiquiet.com:

Back at the turn of the century, David Bowie re-recorded a number of his lesser-known songs, and planned to release them along with some new material on an album called Toy. The album was slated for a mid-2001 release, but due to problems with Virgin, Bowie’s record label at the time, it never saw the light of day. A number of the songs from Toy were included on Bowie’s 2002 album Heathen and as B-sides to its various singles, but a large portion of Toy still remained unreleased. Until now, that is.

Over the weekend, a 256-kbps quality torrent of the full-length album was shared online. Consisting of 14 tracks, and running a little over an hour long, the album is the closest we can get to “new” Bowie material.

Thanks to brigstow for sharing the tracks.

A detailed write-up on the Toy tracks can be found here.

Click on the highlighted tracks to download the MP3s (these are high quality MP3s - sample rate of 256 kbps). As far as we can ascertain, these tracks have never been officially released on CD.

  15. Thanks ever so much for sharing these tracks;correct me if I am wrong but uncle Floyd is surely one of Bowies greatest songs-the idea of imbueing inanimate objects with emotion(well,I guess they are SLIGHTLY animate if somone pulls the strings!) is a trait in songwriting Bowie is solely responsible for introducing into popular music(well,I guess Lennon could also be cited)-I will always love Bowie for this quality. Many of the songs around MWSTW and HD express this quality in abundance. The other standout is Silly Boy Blue for me.I think its probable it wasnt released because the production tends towards a sameness, but hell ,ITS DAVID BOWIE!,so a few plays and It’ll probably be a grower. Thanks again.

I don’t think we have to discuss the subject of omitting commercially available tracks on this site. I share your opinion that it’s best to have all the tracks on a roio but then not for the price of risking to have this great site shut down by legal action. Those of us who know what it was like to hunt down any roio in the pre-net age are only too happy what BigO does - on a daily basis - and for FREE. So please no accusations and no hard feelings towards them. And if there are sites that offer the “complete” version - fair enough. Thank you for providing those links. Btw, the second one is dead for either being “in breach of a copyright holder or deleted by the uploader”.

  17. Interesting songs but let’s face it. It has stayed unreleased by DB for a reason. His suits are still trying to keep this decidely mediocre material off the shelf. No problem, DB. I won’t listen to any of this again. Promise!

  18. This album is on par with anything he’s put out. The songs are beautiful. I miss him so much. I guess when the muse hides there is no faking it huh?PLEASE DB come back!!!!!
