Sydney 2011 [no label, 2CD]

Wasting Light on Sydney Harbour - live on Goat Island, Sydney, Australia; March 24, 2011 (broadcast on April 2). Very good Triple M FM broadcast. (Incomplete show; complete broadcast?)

For those who weathered and survived the grunge years, this will be like comfort food - highly palatable, crunchy and might even send a chill down your spine.

This is what Kendall Hooper posted at

Foo Fighters well and truly rocked Sydney Harbour in an exclusive event for Channel [V] and Triple M last night. Taking over Goat Island at sunset, they lived up to their reputation as one of the world’s biggest and hardest hitting bands by putting on the longest performance of their 15-year career and without a doubt the gig of the year.

In a marathon three-hour set, Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Taylor Hawkins, Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear tore through their new album, Wasting Light, playing every single track for just 500 of their biggest [and luckiest] fans. It was the first time that their new material was performed in Australia, and from the reaction of the crowd, the band has another hit album on their hands when it is released on April 8. With Sydney Harbour Bridge as their stunning backdrop Foo Fighters then let rip with song after song from their stellar career sending the crowd into an absolute frenzy.

  2. hey bigo, i haven’t listened to foo’s in ages. i really like their first album, dave’s metal project, probot, queens of the stone age-songs for the deaf, his simple machines cassette called late! - pocketwatch. songs from it became foo songs and one was a nirvana song called color pictures of a marigold later. if you get on youtube, you can hear it.

as for the foos, they got too popish for me. however, pat smear is on it so maybe. i saw pat play with nirvana here in b’ham dec 1, 93 at boutwell auditorium. fun time.

  3. Been to see these guys 7 times and they are never less than brilliant. They are, right now, the best live rock band on the planet! The leak of “Wasting Light” plus these live performances means I’m gonna have to see them again this year - and boogie my sneakers away (RIP, Lowell)!
