JIMI HENDRIX
Olympic Gold Vols. 1 and 2 [Blimp, 2CD]

Outtakes.

These are collections of outtakes from the “Are You Experienced” album and the early singles sessions. These Japanese CD editions have been de-hissed, and while I realize that some purists may not like that, believe me: the earlier CD editions of “Olympic Gold Vols. 1 & 2” were snowed under by hiss. And yes fans, I’m aware that the bootlegger inserted one non-Jimi track to play games with us (It’s a backing track for the soul music standard “I Can’t Turn You Loose” performed by unknown musicians). - Philip Cohen

Thanks to Phil for sharing the tracks.

Note: A longtime music fan, Philip Cohen was a contributor to the now-defunct ICE Magazine and compiled the boxsets for The Yardbirds, The Small Faces, Humble Pie and Nice.

Click on the highlighted tracks to download the MP3s (these are high quality MP3s - sample rate of 224 kbps). As far as we can ascertain, these tracks have never been officially released on CD.

Due to the size of some of the files, please be very patient when downloading the tracks. It could be that the server was very busy. Please try again later. Kindly email us at [email protected] if you encounter persistent problems downloading the files.

  2. Thanks to Phil and BigO once again for this outstanding offering. Outstanding sound!!
You wouldn’t have any “Axis” boots available would you? I’d love to hear them as it’s my favorite Hedrix album.

    By Rick D on Apr 28, 2011

  3. A world of wonderment. Lament not Jimi, alas, he’s but gone before us. We’ll all take the plunge eventually….

By Timmy on Apr 28, 2011

  4. thanks, bigO and phil cohen, for the wonderful insight into the creativity (and frustration) that occurs in studioland.

  5. Thanks bigO and phill cohen for this offering Jimi Hedrix is my favorite musician

  6. Still the best place on the ‘net!!!

  7. Phil I love your dedication but lossy sucks. Why can’t you share this in a legitimate form? You have shared a goldmine but I have stopped downloading. Are you afraid of the RIAA coming after you? Or mabe you are sharing in lossless and I haven’t found the shows yet.

By bill on Apr 29, 2011

  8. Hello Bill
Thanks for your comments. We just do not have the bandwidth to share Phil’s collection in a lossless format. Thanks for your interest.

    By bigozine2 on Apr 29, 2011

  9. Come on.
Why are you complaining about that he shares them in MP3?

Maybe you can hear like superman, but for me they are good enough..And remember,,they are free..

    Beggars can’t choose:)

Thanks Phil and BigO..I love the whole thing here..

By Eric on Apr 29, 2011

  10. I myself don’t do any sharing on the internet, and as for downloading from sites that have lossless recordings, I don’t do that either, because I’m not equiped with file sharing software and/or the technical expertise to do file sharing, bit torrent etc.
For these particular recordings, lossless would not be audibly better. These two Hendrix titles are cassette-derived and not full fidelity. The sound quality limitations that you are hearing are in the original bootleg. They are not a result of MP3 data reduction.

  11. Thank you, Big O, thank you, Phil, snobs feel free to go elsewhere. As someone who recorded many gigs back in the day, most of Big O’s are superior to what used to be traded among fans like myself.

By Just Bill on Apr 29, 2011

  12. And we’ve been getting these now in 224 kbps, so it’s not as if things haven’t improved.

Philip is right on the money. Remember GIGO?

But I have the answer if you expect modern-day equipment fidelity. The expression for it is - Tribute Band, karaoke. However, that may be LOSSY (or lousy) in other ways…

Tip 1. Internet Explorer users should upgrade to ver. 9 to allow temporary deactivation of the add-ons they use but dont need for dl. It will speed up dl alot!
Tip 2. Also, consider getting Registry Utilities or a similar program. It will correct registry errors and also optimize other areas. But dont select ALL if it takes out any of your anti-virus or other protection.

When I did those two steps, my DSL dl’s went from 1-2 minutes to 15-20 seconds! And my web experience is much faster. Read ALL instructions on how to install and use, before the install.

  13. Thank you, Phil. Not the first time I’ve heard most of these recordings, but a few titles are new to me, so most welcome. The European AYE was my first album purchase, so these sessions are of great interest. Some things just get better with time. If anyone wants to hear a completed version of Polnaref’s La Pouppee Qui Fait Non, I think the British Birds had one out on a compilation.

  14. Big O and Phil are doing everyone a favor by sharing tracks.
Format snobs log off! Let’s see, studio outtakes from 1966 offered in MP3 format? The horror, the horror!
    Now…
Thanks again to Big O and Phil for the music. Music adds so much to life!

    Cheers,
    Bigdoins

  15. Many thanks to BigO and Phil. I love this music. I love hearing the band pull the songs together. If you have takes from Axis or The Derek and The Dominos sessions, please post those soon. Or whatever you’ve got to share - I’ll enjoy it. Peace and all the best.

  16. Thanks BigO and Phil - I knew some of these but not all - great to fill in the gaps - they’re amazing. Made my day !!! Don’t suppose there are any Axis takes ? :-)

By MC on Apr 29, 2011

  17. phil really now if you couldn’t share this in high/def effin’ pinwheel pastels with a side of fries why bother at all ??? sheesh the nerve of some people …

By woodpeckerdeadwood on Apr 30, 2011

  18. What is the fuss? When one hears such takes else? To whom it does not fit, is to leave it! BiGo and Phil Keep it up. What do you expect of outtakes from the 60s?

By stevie on Apr 30, 2011

  19. Thanks, I’m a big Hendrix fan, and guitar player. Of course I have vivid memories from the late 60’s and early 70’s maxing the volume on brother Jimmy. I can still hear him screaming in the distance fading, fading, never completely gone! Wow!

By Mike Jones on Apr 30, 2011

  20. “If we can’t get Unicorns & glitter with each track they’re not worth downloading…” (some people are never happy).

Thanks for all your efforts to post everything you do!!!

    long live bigo.

  22. I’ve stopped being surprised by the ingratitude and arrogance shown by so much of humanity. But I haven’t stopped wanting to smack the tossers when they rear their ugly heads.
Sadly, with gens X and Z on the rise I expect it will get even worse, because few seem to be taught any manners and diplomacy.
That line from ‘grace’ - “For what we receive, Lord, make us truly grateful” - said it perfectly. (And no, I’m talking about an album by Saint Scotty Moorehead!)
Thanks BigO and Phil. I wish more of us deserved you :)

By tony on May 8, 2011

  23. Great, thank you …. and more!

By redcap on Aug 12, 2011

Paz y amor.

By Pol on Jan 4, 2013

  25. A look behind the curtain,I just love hearing what it takes to get to what we all know and love…Jimi was truly one of a kind.

By Couz on Sep 14, 2014

  26. And on September 18th, it will be the 44th anniversary of Jimi’s death.

By PurpleHaze on Sep 14, 2014

  27. 2 months later he would have been 71.

By darth on Sep 14, 2014

  28. Jesus Bill, way to look a gift horse in the mouth! All the work he took to put together the descriptions, clean up the audio and post and you have the audacity to complain??

Hey BigO, I appreciate this and all your wonderful posts. I don’t care if you post it on cylinder… free is free and sharing is beautiful!

By walter on Sep 16, 2014

  29. Bill stopped downloading…. oh the pain… the pain….. Danger Will Robinson!

By walter on Sep 16, 2014

  30. @Bill - MP3 is a legitimate format. I have heard FLAC files that are worse sound quality than an MP3.

Lossy means nothing as long as the files were encoded well, like if they were encoded at a decent bitrate using a GOOD encoder like LAME.

So, BigO - thank you for all that you share, the quality is always good bitrate MP3 files.

Bill.. get over that old old OLD belief that lossy is bad… it is only bad if the encoding is done badly and the bitrate pitifully low.

By Shut Up bill on Sep 20, 2014

  31. Interesting tracks and good quality sound.

    Thanks BigO and Philip
