BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN & THE E STREET BAND
Kansas City Carboy [Bruce Tree Service, 2CD]

Live at the Memorial Hall, Kansas City, MO; June 16, 1978. Very good soundboard.

Bruce Springsteen announces in the middle of Roslita: “Do I have to say it?… Do I have to say it?… Do I have to say it?… Master of the world… King of the goddamn universe… the Big Man, Clarence Clemons…”

It’s impossible to think of the E Street Band and not find saxophonist Clarence Clemons in the line-up, just like long-time fans keep recalling keyboardist Danny Federici (who passed away in 2008). Clemons suffered a stroke on June 12, 2011 and died of complications from the stroke on June 18. He was 69 years old.

Springsteen called the loss “immeasurable.” “We are honored and thankful to have known him and had the opportunity to stand beside him for nearly 40 years,” Springsteen said on his website. “He was my great friend, my partner and with Clarence at my side, my band and I were able to tell a story far deeper than those simply contained in our music. His life, his memory, and his love will live on in that story and in our band.”

The Big Man will be missed.

Thanks to Brucejuice (who shared the show in 2006) and to strato96 who kept the show alive on Dime. Strato96 also did the following:
- Removed the end of track gaps
- Pitch adjustment using Cool Edit 2000 (95 per cent stretch)
- Re-tracked using CDWave

  3. Tonight, he lies above that “giant neon Exxon sign”, as we below, look up and smile. Clarence, you brought us happiness through all these years. Thank you for making all of us feel so good! God Bless.

  5. I met Bruce and Clarence just after E Street Shuffle was released. Clarence came over, stuck out his hand, and said - “Clarence Clemons, nice to meet you. You don’t happen to have any psychedelics on you do you?” Great guy, great musician, great loss.

  6. RIP: CC I’m sure you’ve already playing with the greats in the beyond. Thanks Bigo for the terrific music…always appreciated. Take care…

  8. Hey Ed!

I was at both of those shows as well. That Bruce show was historic in that it was the very first ‘DARLINGTON COUNTY” he played since 9-11. (There is that line in there about “Our Pa’s each own one of the World Trade Centers”), I was terribly disappointed in that FLOYD show… too much show and no emphasis on the music.

I was also at that Alice Cooper show 10-20-07 …. Alice was INCREDIBLE that night at the Birmingham Theatre!

    RIP Clarence

  9. Damn! He (Clarence, the BIG MAN!) sure provided the soundtrack to many magic times in my life. I remember meeting him after the Dec. 2002 Philips show as he walked to his limo with a yellow band Cohiba in his mouth.

I also remember sitting off to the side of the stage for the Nov. 2002 Birmingham, AL show on the RISING TOUR…. we were in a section almost behind the stage, my Brother & I, in a section that had probably been killed off (blocked out/no tickets sold). We were off to the side by ourselves going crazy to “Darlington County”…. and I looked at the stage, scanned over to Clarence and he was looking right at my Brother & I, smiling and pointed right at us. We made eye conntact, our fists went up in the air and so did his.

I can still see it like it was yesterday.

I have lost a great deal of respect for Bruce Springsteen in the last decade, but Clarence was always “THE MAN”!

Just thinking about how that mighty sax has been silenced….. thank goodness for the records and the bootlegs! “Tenth Avenue Freezeout”, “Jungle Land”, and my favorite…. that sax break/solo in “BADLANDS”!

    RIP BIG MAN

  10. Thanks so much for this. I was at this show, and for years I thought it was the best I ever saw. Been thinking about that show a lot the last few days. RIP, Clarence.

  11. hey russian assassin, man, i was at alice cooper-alabama theatre and i saw him again almost two years later in montgomery, al at montgomery performing arts centre. both times we got sucky baton rouge as openers. what luck. i still have both my ticket stubs. i wish i had both shows cause both times he played ballad of dwight fry. i wish i had a show with it and desperado!

i liked the floyd show, even if waters wasn’t there. i’ll take it, if bigo can find it on dime. it can be an audience recording too. i don’t mind. i just want it cause i was there. i have my ticket stub. man, it was cold that night too in may!

find me on facebook. 3 people from bigo have already.

i got the rest of kc and pink floyd. i will have to get cleveland maybe tomorrow, if you don’t put up something else i gotta have more. i’ll take another zeppelin. they are always welcome in my library.

  15. Many thanks for the share - I downloaded ‘Racing in the Street’ first to get the quality. Absolutely amazing. RIP Clarence. I had the good fortune to see them live twice - no equal.

  16. Back in 1978, while working on a project north of Columbus, OH, I won tix to the WMMS 10th Anniversary show on 8/9/78 at the fabled Agora in Cleveland. Bruce and the band were never better in my opinion. Kid Leo, a DJ credited with breaking the Boss in the midwest USA, was the host. A friend taped the show, which was broadcast on several rock stations in the OH/PA. It has remained the most played item in my Bruce collection. I recently found an ROIR recording that has replaced my aging cassettes. Worth searching for if you liked this show. Starts and ends with covers, “Summertime Blues” and “Raise Your Hand”. Clarence was a big part of the show. Can’t imagine the E-Street Band without him. RIP, Big Man!

  17. Hi BigO, one more time thanks for all the great music, I’ve downloaded tons of great stuff over the years and you still bring up surprising new stuff.
But: please make the covers bigger! (at least not so small that they get blurry)
And second: don’t you think you’re carry it too far with the amout of 4shared and Megaupload links?

  18. Looking forward to hearing this one. With the loss of Clarence another piece of my youth is gone. There has to be one hell of a band up there. Thanks and R.I.P. Big Man
