BLUE OYSTER CULT
Cleveland Empire [Uxbridge 347, 2CD]

Live at The Empire Concert Club, Cleveland, OH; June 28, 1991. Excellent soundboard.

From Scream to Supernatural to Zombieland, the Blue Oyster Cult have left behind a classic tune for horror films - (Don’t Fear) The Reaper, which was the group’s biggest US hit in 1976. But the group’s musical legacy is far wider - with acts from Metallica to The Minutemen, The Goo Goo Dolls and The Beautiful South all citing an influence. It’s a place where metal and psychedelia meet and where jam bands begin.

The following is a note posted by McDracula2000 at guitars101.com: “Recorded at the Empire Concert Club in Cleveland, Ohio, this is the Oyster Boys at their heaviest. I’m not sure who was behind the mixing board for this show but they should have kept them on. The show has definite crunch.”

Thanks to Lincoln Park Mark for sharing the tracks.

  4. Just saw them at Artpark in Lewiston, NY (near Niagara Falls) last Tuesday. Only Bloom and Dharma remain from the band that did this show, but they still sound great. Rudy Sarzo of Quiet Riot & Ozzy fame is on bass now. I was waiting for some BOC to show up on BigO. Thanks for this one.

  8. Awesome show! Thanks BigO. I’m reminded of an interview with Buck Dharma where he described the band’s work ethic and dedication to their live shows. He said something to the effect of “We NEVER suck.”

  10. If there was a real Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, this band would not only be in it, they would have their own wing.

    Thank you.

  20. Blue Oyster Cult will be opening the Antelope Valley CA Fair this Friday Aug 19 2011 with Foghat at 7:30PM. Grandstand seats are included in the price of admission, which is $9 each at the gate, kids and seniors at $7, and parking is $5. So a couple can drive there and pay $23 to park, get in, and enjoy both bands. There is handicapped parking right up near the entrance to the park. Go to the 14 Fwy and get off at avenue H Westbound, the fairgrounds are next to the Freeway. The closest main street south of the fair from ave H is avenue I, and there are 2 gas stations just east of the 14 Fwy. There are a number of fast food places a little further east on avenue I.

  22. Anybody want to sell me a copy of this show on CD? For some reason, I am unable to download the songs: Buck’s Boogie, Godzilla, Astronomy, & Don’t Fear the Reaper — and I would love to have them. Thanks.

  23. tim - try using a download manager. a good one is mipony. with that u can copy the url of this page. thats -

    http://bigozine2.com/roio/?p=806#comment-896512

u take that and put it into the program. it automatically takes all the songs and downloads every song. be careful not to download both copies of the songs that are offered twice–ie - godzilla and this aint the summer of love.
u will find that u can dl the entire concert in 10-30 seconds or perhaps a full minute if it moves slowly or if u have a slow connection. then u wont have to complain about not being able to get to that other site or whatever it is that is the problem some of yall are having. good luck.

oh.. btw.. u can find mipony at -
