Fantasy Session ‘70 [Main Street MST 101, 1CD]

Jam session at Fantasy Studio, CA; January 30, 1970. Very good soundboard.

This is a popular boot among CCR fans and collectors and, in 2008, a wider public became acquainted with two of the tracks. The release of CCR’s 40th anniversary reissues saw the Booker T Born On The Bayou included as a bonus track on Cosmo’s Factory while the Booker T Down On The Corner is included on Willy And The Poor Boys.

Even if there are some pops and hiss, Bootlegzone calls this “an interesting disc overall”. Bootlegzone reader Cooley added: “Probably includes Steve ‘The Colonel’ Cropper on guitar, Donald ‘Duck’ Dunn on bass, and Booker T Jones on keyboards, although only the CCR band and Booker T Jones are acknowledged on the cover. A great, great jam session with John Fogerty leading the pack and directing the others. Very informal setting, superbly recorded.”

Click on the highlighted tracks to download the MP3s (sample rate of 224 kbps). As far as we can ascertain, these tracks have never been officially released on CD.

  2. Thanks Big O! if anyone would like to hear the ommitted Down on the Corner from this session, Youtube still has it available to listen to.
But Born on the Bayou is not there. However, if you would like to see Creedence playing it at Woodstock in 1969 (it is NOT released or on the Woodstock movie), it is on Youtube! copy the following as your search to go straight there in Youtube: Creedence Clearwater Revival LIVE at Woodstock Aug 16, 1969 - Born on the Bayou. it explains why John Fogerty absolutely refused for it to be in the film. You can view it as a consolation prize of sorts.

  4. I read about these jam sessions in a unauthorized John Fogerty biography I got at the library. Around July 4th I found this boot on the web. It is only at 128kbps but I’m going to use it to add the 2 omitted songs to this version. BigO has never said anything when I posted links before but I won’t push my welcome.

If anyone is interested just say so and I’ll come back and post it.

And 3yrsnojob - they also have CCR at Woodstock @ 320k
