The John Hartford Memorial Festival 2011 [no label, 1CD]

Live at Bean Blossom, IN; June 2, 2011. Ex SBD stereo.

Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen both share a common love for folk, country and bluegrass. While Hillman was a founder member of The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers, Pedersen was low-key, a backing musician who has played with a number of big names.

The pair connected when they formed The Desert Rose Band and released an album in 1987. They have since been recording and performing together. Recently recovered from a back injury, Hillman and Pedersen are back on the road.

Here’s a warm and friendly show from the duo where many of the tunes they have recorded come alive. Standouts include If I Could Only Win Your Love, which Pedersen recorded with Emmylou Harris on the original LP, Eight Miles High, Wheels, Steets Of Bakersfield and Heaven’s Lullaby.

This is a recording made from the soundboard. The taper had an issue with the right cable and much of the music from the left channel was used to replace the lost music. In a sense, that makes this a mono recording. Shared by indydarkstar at losslesslegs. He would like to thank “John Hotze and the soundcrew” and Hillman and Pedersen for a great show.

A nice old-fashioned show, where the music comes first. Great musicianship and harmonies.
