Los Angeles 1975 [no label, 1CD]

Live at the Roxy, Los Angeles, CA; December 11, 1975. Excellent FM broadcast.

Mention “country rock” and most people will mention the Eagles. Those into country rock will likely remember The Ozark Mountain Daredevils for their hits, Jackie Blue and If You Wanna Get To Heaven. Jackie Blue, with its smooth vocals a-la Curtis Mayfield is not your typical country rock song but then fans of the group will probably tell you that the Daredevils, from Springfield, Missouri, are not your typical country rock band. Take Better Days, for instance. The song may have a funky beat but that didn’t stop the band from taking an extended jazzy excursion with the flute.

A customer posted at “The Daredevils manage to mix the traditional sounds from the hills and hollows of the Ozarks with R&B, ’70s rock, and you name it… The Daredevils always managed to jump back and forth from the pure rural “hillbilly” sound to any number of directions.”

Certainly worth a listen, even or especially after all these years.

  4. I remember Jackie Blue as a single from the summer of ‘75. The local AM Top 40 hits station played it.

  5. Thanks BigO. This is yet another band I saw, just one year before this concert. I still have their first two LPs. Good band, and far deeper than their two hits might lead one to believe.

  6. that 4shared program is for the birds. unless you throw money they want you to wait 500 plus seconds. never mind that, there’s much too much music available in the world to wait for them. whenever i see that i have to go thru them for a single song or more, i’ll either skip the song or skip the entire release.
sorry, but that’s the way of a free spirit.

  7. Agree with you completely, David. Anytime 4shared or any of the other baloney hosting sites want $$ for some sort of BS upgraded privileges, to download a “bootleg” of all things, then I walk. These things were meant to be traded freely, whether vinyl, CDs, or most especially nowadays with mp3 and flac. If it ain’t free, then I pass. And believe me, I have a lot of free boots. If you want it, it can be found. Same principles apply to ridiculous waiting times, and this really comes into play when long concerts are divided into multiple rars or zips. You get one part, then have to wait some BS amount of time to get the next part? Give me a freaking break. Just look elsewhere. I love it when the kind folks that put these boots out put them up on MediaFire or Zippyshare or the NZ “cloud”. No muss, no fuss.
