Last Time Around [no label, 1CD]

Unknown venue, European Tour, June 1, 1992. Very good soundboard.

Instead of calling Thin White Rope “hard or alternative rockers” - and, for want of a better name - they have been saddled with the term “desert rock.” The group lasted between 1984 and 1992.

This is what David Sprague wrote about the group in The Trouser Press Guide To ’90s Rock:

If David Lynch were to assemble a hard-rock band from scratch, chances are he’d come up with something that sounds a lot like Thin White Rope. The Davis, California-bred group defined its high-lonesome desert-rock with enough metallic edge to get the pulse pounding - and enough ominous surrealism to make the blood run cold. Perhaps the most twisted element in its mix was the quavering, tightly wound voice of frontman Guy Kyser.

Thanks to booomboom for sharing these tracks on the net in 2005. booomboom noted: “There is no info for the country or town or venue, only a date (01.june.1992) on the CD. The CD came without artwork.”

Cover artwork/poster from MLCompton, posted at - thanks!

  2. WOW. Just WOW. Cannot believe you have these guys in your collection, Big O! One of my favorite bands from the 80’s. Saw them in Texas maybe ’88 or ’89 and they were the EPITOME of desert rock. I can’t think of one band to compare them to for those that don’t know; the closest I can come up with is Doors crossed with Hawkwind.

Many many thanks for finding this and posting it!

  3. Thanks golgo for the description on this one. I listened to some samples last night then got it today. Guess you could call it garage psych but that’s probably wrong too. Just good old sun damaged desert rock. I like it.

Does BigO have any ROIOs of Giant Sand??
