MAX ROACH
Hamburg 1984 [no label, 1CD]
Live at the Funkhaus Hamburg, Hamburg, Germany; January 19, 1984. Very good to excellent FM broadcast.
Words like “joy”, “exuberance” and “exhilarating” easily come to mind when describing this set and the Perfidia excerpt towards the end of Track Two is a nice surprise.
Thanks to the person who shared these tracks on the net in 2004.
Some notes that came with the show:
This is the correct setlist for this show. Some discographies gave wrong titles and timings.
This is the second half of a concert by the Max Roach Quartet. The group was joined by Sam Rivers. “Other versions of this set which circulate among collectors include an interrupted track (this was taken from my previous master of this set) or are of inferior sound quality.”
Click on the highlighted tracks to download the MP3s (sample rate of 192 kbps). As far as we can ascertain, these tracks have never been officially released on CD.
