"The name of this act says it all: an ensemble of CLASSICAL musicians devoted to African music. They are dedicating the whole second album to Bembeya Jazz National (originally known as Orchestre de Beyla, from Guinea), offering an extended version of their legendary recording "Regard sur le Passé", mixing European baroque with mandingo griot music, hence two guest singers as Sekouba Bambino Diabate and Baba Sissoko. I frankly reckon that the previous offering (dedicated to Fela) rocked more... this set is divided in three separate movements, each including 4 tunes debatably trackmarked, the show was not broadcast in its continuity, but with radio commentaries between every movement, commentaries that I have edited out. NOTE that a few 12 seconds radio dropouts occurred along the set, always of the same length! namely in track1, track06, track07 and one more I don't remember... " - survivor69. Ex FM stereo. "Here is a project run by Fratelli Mancuso specifically for Ravenna Festival: the music featured is 'canto devozionale derivato dal lamento di Cristo sulla croce', roughly explained as 'arcaic Easter religious chants from the suffering of crucified Christ'. Isn't that impressive? ... this music/singing called 'Lamentazione' is typical from the provinces of Caltanissetta and Enna in Sicily, but is similar to Tenores di Bitti (sardinia), their polyphonic vocal style, often described as a type of overtone singing (see for explanations, and quirky gregorian chants, sung or in arcaic sicilian language or in vulgar Latin, sung not in churches but during 'le processioni della settimana santa', processions for Easter Holy Week. This show sees alternating on stage with Fratelli Mancuso the collectives called 'Memento Domini' di Mussomeli (a town near Caltanissetta, central Sicily) and Lamentatori di Marianopoli (again a town near Caltanissetta, and 'Lamentatori' means 'people who complain').
