A Silver Mount Zion Memorial Orchestra + Tra-la-la Band - A Sublime Moment [Prof Stoned 1CD Torrent: 143411] live at Effenaar, Eindhoven, Netherlands, January 25, 2001. Lineup: Efrim: Vocals / Piano / Guitar / Tapes; Sophie: Vocals / Violin; Thierry: Upright Bass; Becky: Cello; Jessica: Violin; Ian: Guitar. Restored from the Original 2-Track Soundboard Tape. "I edited the missing part of Tr. 9 from the audience recording together with the boardtape. Every second of recorded sound on my tapes was used for this remaster. The edit -though clearly hearable- is acceptable to my taste. While working on this, I also noticed that the tapes were running way too slow. I corrected this with the pitch function of Adobe Audition (+0.53 semitones), making the recording almost three minutes shorter. The left and right channel of the original recording were also slightly out of sync with each other, which I corrected as well." Prof Stoned Ex SBD stereo.

Jer & Merl just jam away, with no vocals, much less even songs. I would figure this to be one of the first times, if not the first itself, these guys played together. Getting a sense and feel for each others playing. Needlessly to say, the hand in glove was instant, and very magical. This is the very birth of Jerry's solo bands as well. All and all, have a J rolled, and free time to kick back for this 'journey' of masterminds. Merl was a great friend. I wish he was still here to play this to him and hear of he would say about it. Oh well, can't win them all. Although it is more "jazz" or "west coast", I'm putting it in "rock" for more to see. All thanks to Matt Smith for the transfer and sharing of this! Source: Sirius/XM satellite feed. "I have noticed a couple of quick dropouts in the 2nd set particularly during Ship of Fools and Stella Blue. I have checked this master copy and a backup I had going on another device and they are present both places. It seems it was an issue with the Sirius feed. I believe there are a couple other places where it sound like a "skip". This was also a problem with the Sirius feed, it sounds like dropped sample from the main satellite feed in general. This only happens a couple of times and is not terribly distracting. It was captured for archival purposes only but serves as a decent and perhaps the only Soundboard source we will see from any of the Garcia Symphony Celebration shows. "The Great American Music Band started at a show at the Great American Music Hall with David Grisman, Richard Greene and Vassar Clements probably in early 1974. From that point onward Grisman and Greene performed a number of times using the name playing primarily instrumental music and providing a vehicle for David Grisman's compositions. Initially the group line-up, with the exception of Grisman and Greene, depended on who was available for any given show. During this period Jerry Garcia played with the group for a number of shows between May and June 1974. David Nichtern, Taj Mahal and Buell Neidlinger also played with the group during these months.

"After a few months Grisman and Greene decided to continue the group and develop the instrumental concept with regular sidemen. The first settled line-up was Grisman and Greene plus guitarists John Carlini and Ellen Kearney, and bassist Joe Carroll. Richard Greene left the group around the end of 1974 and a second line-up emerged with Grisman and Joe Carroll plus the second mandolin of Todd Phillips and fiddler Darol Anger. In 1975, with the addition of Tony Rice, this group became the first David Grisman Quintet." Ex pre-FM stereo. A Rob Berger share.

Grin - Washington DC, 1971 (no label 1CD dime 516651) live at Sylvan Theatre, Washington D.C. USA, May 02, 1971, Mayday Vietnam War Protest Rally. "This was a historic, and tumultuous event as you can see at the bottom. Who knows what this crowd was experiencing, or hearing rumours of. Military troops were moving onto the grounds at the time. I think you can hear it in the band performance too. It appears to start mid-show...the taper probably hadn't anticipated the time it would take to get through many thousands of protesters and roadblocks, to get to the outdoor Sylvan Theatre area. The band sounds tentative, but the closing performance smokes, if you can handle the sound quality. I think the band wanted to finish and get the hell out of there."

Background from Wikepedia: On Monday, May 3rd, 1971 one of the most disruptive actions of the Vietnam War era occurred in Washington, DC, when thousands of anti-war activists tried to shut down the Federal government in protest of the Vietnam War. The threat caused by the May Day Protests, forced the Nixon Administration to create a virtual state of siege in the Nation's Capital. Thousands of Federal and National Guard troops, along with local police, suppressed the disorder and by the time it was over several days later, over 10,000 would be arrested. It would be the largest mass arrest in U.S. history. VG AUD mono. TT: 24:17m. From 2009 transfer.
